MCKENZIE NAMED INTERIM ASSOCIATE DEAN OF ALLIED HEALTH
Marsha McKenzie has been named interim associate dean of allied health at Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC).
A Paintsville native, McKenzie has served as a faculty member in the college’s associate degree nursing program and coordinator of the practical nursing program. In her new role, McKenzie will oversee the college’s associate degree nursing, licensed practical nurse, respiratory therapy and nursing assistant programs. She will also direct the college’s biology faculty.
McKenzie said the vast changes in healthcare require flexibility from higher education institutions to meet community needs.
“We’re committed to meeting the challenges and providing our region with highly-skilled and compassionate health care professionals,” she said.
Dr. Nancy B. Johnson, provost at BSCTC, said McKenzie’s compassion for health care is matched by her desire to see students succeed.
“Marsha thoroughly understands health care as it relates to our community and its needs,” said Dr. Johnson.
McKenzie said BSCTC’s model is for everyone – a high school graduate, returning student, those seeking to be retrained and even students who want to pursue a career while working full time.
“No matter where our students come from, they are seeking to acquire the tools to be successful,” she said. “That’s a task we don’t take lightly.”
A graduate of the college’s associate degree nursing program, McKenzie completed her undergraduate degree in nursing at Chamberlain College and her master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education from Morehead State University.
