Narrative:

Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC) offer educational programs that meet guidelines established by Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) 164.020 and Kentucky Community and Technical College System Board Policy 4.12 [1] [2]. Based on KCTCS Board of Regents Policies 4.1.2- B, specific program lengths are identified. The Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees consist of 60 to72 credit hours of instruction that can be transferred and applied toward the requirements for higher-level degrees offered by public universities. Associate of Applied Science degrees consist of 60 to 76 credit hours of which 15 of these credit hours must fulfill general education requirements. Associate of Applied Science degrees should incorporate multiple exit points. Diplomas consist of 36 to 68 credit hours and are designed to prepare students for technical employment within a one- to two-year period and cannot exceed the total number of credit hours required for a degree in the same program of study. Certificates consist of 12 to 36 credit hours and are designed to provide marketable, entry-level skills and are designed to prepare students at skill levels expected by employees in the local area. Proposals for certificate programs with fewer than 12 credit hours or more than 36 credit hours should include a compelling rationale for either a shorter or longer program [3].

As dictated by the BSCTC Curriculum Advisory Committee Guidelines, each technical program will maintain a program advisory committee. The advisory committee assesses specific areas of the program and makes suggestions and recommendations designed to improve that specific area. Such recommendations could include the modification of curriculum, purchase of new instructional materials or equipment or adoption of a new safety policy [6]. An example of Business Studies Advisory Committee Minutes indicate input and guidance from members of the advisory committee [7].
